Life Statement Example

Briefly explain significant life events which demonstrate your work/life experience other than going to school full time. This can include jobs, volunteer work, military experience, raising a family, etc.

I attended Boise State in 2001 for the first time. I went a couple of years and then decided to take a break. The break turned into ten years. During my time out of school I learned a lot about myself and the world. I worked many jobs, lived in many places, and found a lifelong passion in rock climbing. Climbing has taken me all over the world, and has taught me strength and self-motivation. My time away from school taught me how to survive in the world, coming back to school is teaching me how to survive academically.

I am a very hard worker and pride myself on my ability to use common sense which I obtained in my years outside of school. I really want to be well-rounded and have the book smarts to go along with my common sense. I love adventure and coming back to school after many years has and will continue to be quite the adventure.

Explain why you feel the Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies degree is a fit for your personal and professional goals. Explain what you hope to achieve as a result of obtaining this degree.

This particular degree will prepare me to be able to stay in the field that I am currently serving and after I graduate I will be able to manage my facility. In order to stay with my current employer and to keep my current salary I must be better qualified to manage a facility of my own, which is where the opportunities lie that will let me do the work I love and believe in, as well as make enough money to provide for my family.

Describe what obstacles you foresee in your degree progress and how you will overcome them. Describe the resources you will use and what support systems you will have in place.

I was very concerned that finishing my degree with all online courses would prove difficult if I didn’t have any support from the University. I was very relieved after meeting with the staff members of the Multidisciplinary Studies team that I learned that I will have access to support as needed through a variety of methods (advising, online coordination of tutors and learning assistants, and faculty guidance).

Balancing work, school and family responsibilities could prove to be a challenge but I have supportive family and friends who are excited about my educational goals and opportunities. They are willing to help me so that I can achieve this goal and finish what I started.
